Network of Biblical Storytellers Int, Festival Retreat

This year I attend as President of this incredible organization.

Held at the Maritime Conference Center in Baltimore, Maryland.

We have an amazing Key note speaker Anna Carter Florence

Anna Carter Florence is the Peter Marshall Professor of Preaching at Columbia Theological Seminary and an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA). She is known for her work on the historical, theological, aesthetic, and performative dimensions of preaching.

This festival is for churchgoers, lovers of our sacred texts, budding storytellers, experienced storytellers, visitors to the sick, teachers in Christian schools, Sunday school leaders, camp leaders, youth leaders, pastors, and YOU!

Don’t turn your back on wisdom, for she will protect you.Love her, and she will guard you. The beginning of wisdom is the wisest thing you can do! And whatever else you do, develop good judgment. Proverbs 4:6-7

It is believed that Solomon wrote the Proverbs. This verse is from a father telling his son the most important things in life, and one of them is wisdom. Does Solomon remember what David, his father, told him? The Greek word re"sit means what comes first and is used in Genesis 1:1( 'In the beginning...") which implies something of great importance. 'In the beginning..." As we age, wisdom is a gift from all our experiences, the good, the bad, and the painful ones, leading to good judgment. And isn't it beautiful that wisdom is denoted as she?

Timothy Keller wrote a book that delves deeply into the story of the Prodigal Son. Through tremendous research, he explains aspects of how this well-known story would have been received 2000 years ago. The book was inspired by a sermon he heard from Dr. Edmund Clowney who he asked permission to expand on to make this book. "Listening to the sermon changed the way I understood Christianity." This is an eye-opening book that I highly recommend.

Do we have the courage to talk about our faith with strangers? Just mentioning a book we've read or what happened at church. We never know how we can affect people with a simple answer or open a door to a meaningful conversation.
