MAY

I have been asked to speak on Mother's Day at my church and I have chosen 3 scriptures for this and the one my mom loved the best is from Matthew.

Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin, 29 yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these.3But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? Matthew 6:28-30

She used to say this to my brother and I whenever life seemed to be out of order and some challenges were facing us individually or as a family. When she said it, it changed the conversation, once we let it sink in. She had a strong faith in God and I am so thankful for her lessons.

The other verse is from Proverbs 22:6. Think this is so appropriate for all she taught me not only by her words but her actions.

Teach a child in the way she should go,
And when she is old she will not depart from it.

The last verse I have chosen is Romans 5:3-5
3And not only that, but we also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.

My mom had a very difficult beginning in life, she experienced many tragedies and has always amazed me how she was able to get up from each of these and not be bitter or angry but to embrace life and thrive. She taught me this verse by her actions and joy of life. I am forever grateful. Rest in Peace, Mom.

May one of these verses help you in this glorious time of year when all is growing and bursting forth life.

Award winning author Tessa Afshar for a Spring Retreat.
Come listen to an amazing speaker for a topical discussion on
An Ordinary Life of Extraordinary Significance

Overcomers - Based on the story of Naomi, this presentation both encourages and challenges us as we go through seasons of life where we feel empty, overwhelmed, bitter, or exhausted. This popular talk demonstrates the extraordinary power of God moving through the ordinary moments of our daily lives, and challenges us to make healthy decisions in difficult times. Using the empty bottle of oil that never ran dry in 1Kings 17 as a template, we learn how to live as overcomers.

Love and Destiny – A Moabite outcast named Ruth becomes the mother of kings because of a heartfelt act of love. Like Ruth, we can release the fullness of our destinies by living lives of love. Using Ruth’s famous declaration, we get a glimpse of how it is possible to change the course of our ordinary lives and transform the world around us, releasing the plans God has for each of us.

When: Saturday, May 18, 2019 - 9am to 12 noon

What women are saying about Seeds of Faith:

“Reading about women in the Bible, together with the women in my everyday life, has been so satisfying and helped us connect to each other, and our community, in significant ways.

“Having a group of women to discuss our Christian experience and hear different points of view enriches my faith life.”

“I love being a member of Seeds of Faith. The books and discussions have offered me a new understanding of Christ as we study through the eyes of powerful women of the Bible.”
